Uigwe Banchado?
Uigwe is the essence of Memory of the World of UNESCO (2007). The Uigwe book is more valuable because it has banchado, which depicts national events in color painting.
Uigwe is the Royal Protocols books of the Joseon Dynasty in Korea(1392-1910).
Uigwe is a unique documentary culture revolution that desperately shows the cultural level of the Joseon Dynasty, which is nowhere else in the world. Uigwe fully demonstrates the thoroughness and record system of the Joseon Dynasty's record culture.
Banchado is a painting depicting the sequence and event scene in which civil servants line up at national ceremonies. Uigwe is a vast archive with a total of 4,100 books in 637 types. There are only 176 types (27.6%) of Uigwe with Banchado paintings.
Dr. Hwang Chee-seok started painting Banchado in Uigwe, praying for the return of the Uigwe stolen from France and Japan. Dr. Hwang selected Banchado, which is particularly beautiful and high historical value, among major events held in the country 200 to 300 years ago, and studied and redrawn it for 20 years.
Since we can see only 2P of Uigwe(books) in museums and libraries. So she remade it so that the whole event could be seen. Through her work, New Banchado, she hopes to expand opportunities for people around the world to see the essence of Korea's magnificent documentary culture up close.
